Sustainability

Ocean Grove Technologies is passionate about building a future where innovation and responsibility go hand in hand. Every project has an impact on the environment, and by choosing sustainable practices, we can minimise that impact while delivering high-quality solutions. From using recycled materials and renewable energy, to repairing and repurposing existing equipment, sustainable engineering can protect the world that we all depend on. By working with companies committed to sustainability, you’re helping drive the shift towards a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient future.

Carbon Neutral Operations

Scope 1 Emissions

Emissions that are directly generated by the business, and includes the burning of fossil fuels or release of greenhouse gasses at the place of business. Ocean Grove Technologies only uses electrical vehicles for travel or delivery of goods and does not burn fossil fuels in any process. Fumes generated by manufacturing processes (particularly welding, grinding and plasma cutting) can produce a small amount of greenhouse gas, which currently cannot be captured without improvements to small scale carbon capture and storage technology - we are constantly looking at ways we can reduce our environmental footprint, and this is an area that we will continue to explore. The larger environmental concern with these manufacturing processes is the particulate matter that is discharged, which can harm air quality and water sources if allowed to be released into the environment - Ocean Grove Technologies uses a fume extraction system that captures 99.5% of these particles.

Scope 2 Emissions

Indirect emissions created by electricity use. Ocean Grove Technologies currently purchases 100% of electricity from renewable sources through an energy retailer (including the charging of vehicles), and has big plans to use 100% renewable energy generated onsite in the near future.

Scope 3 Emissions

Indirect emissions from the supply chain: emissions created when purchased products are made and transported. At Ocean Grove Technologies, we have a strong emphasis on reduce, reuse, repair and repurpose - minimising the amount of new materials required is the best way to minimise this type of emission. If unavoidable, we will always use the most environmentally friendly option available. Buying Australian made and local materials reduces the transport emissions, and can reduce the risk of supply chain issues, such as questionable environmental protection laws (although Australia has a long way to go in this regard). Until all suppliers adopt net-zero practices, the only thing we can do to reduce our own Scope 3 emissions (other than reducing the amount of new materials purchased) is to carefully choose who we purchase from, and continue to advocate for stronger environmental protection laws and climate change policy. We are currently trialling a Scope 3 emissions calculator in an effort to quantify our Scope 3 emissions, with the aim of further reducing our reliance on heavy emitters and offsetting what is left.
